I saw this photograph of the Popular milk-bar in Courtenay Place (no year attributed) in the Neighbourly site 'Old Wellington Region'.
It's a great photo - very evocative and would be great inspiration for a Tom Waits-type songwriter. There's a story behind the woman in the hat.
Mind you, the great Ray Davies wrote and sang this song about a cafe which is good.
But here's Tom Waits:
Why are yours and Richard's posts so cryptic?
ReplyDeleteBecause as atheists we use more cross words than you.
DeleteI remember that milk bar.
ReplyDeleteWas that comment too cryptic?
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, there are no atheists in Hell! They continually beg mercy from God.
ReplyDeleteThat makes no sense at all Robert and is a contradiction.
DeleteThere is a famous saying - "There are no atheists in foxholes".
Wasn't the saying, "There are no atheists praying in foxholes."?
ReplyDeleteThough Robert could be wrong.
Not really, Richard aka Anonymous added a verb! If Richard was in a fox hole being pounded by enemy artillery he would indeed be praying!
ReplyDeleteNo, he'd be shitting - as we all would.
DeleteProvided that the supply lines had not been cut and food was available!
ReplyDeleteWank.
